My name is Scott Kalisz, and I  founded Advanced Canine Concepts in 2004.The motivation to do this stemmed from a life-long interest in dogs and dog training. I have had dogs nearly all of my life, beginning with a dog named Heidi who knocked my mother down while she was pregnant with me. During the few short years there were no dogs in my family, I often spent time playing with and teaching tricks to the dogs of our extended family, friends and neighbors. My first experience with professional training came as a teen, with Sheba and the local dog training center. We won the blue ribbon in our basic obedience class before moving on to the advanced classes.

Unfortunately our dog's time comes far too soon, for Sheba nearly sixteen years.Shortly before the loss of Sheba came Misty. Misty had high drive, energy and a great potential for training that I was not able to fully tap into. She taught me there was much more to dog training than I had previously recognized. So for the next few years Misty and I went from trainer to trainer learning all we could. Some of these trainers had a great deal to offer and others not so much. Even though Misty and I learned a lot, I knew there must be much more.

It was not until shortly after purchasing my next German shepherd dog Samsohn that I found it. I began an apprenticeship with the top breeder of German shepherd dogs in the country,  John M  Henkel who was also a certified master trainer and a long-time, well-known behaviorist.

This is where I began to study for a career in dog training and behavior. Over the next several years I was exposed to and studied a wide variety of breeds and behaviors- normal and abnormal. We studied in depth and trained young and old, stable and unstable, shy timid, and bold aggressive dogs.It was easy to see there was no effective, tempplated, one-size-fits-all approach to dog training. Among the most important skills learned, was the ability to read dogs- recognizing and identifying the individual elements of character, including temperament type.

We also studied different styles of training, as well as, competition obedience, conformation, search and rescue and controlled aggression.  The knowledge gained and skills learned allow for the making of an effective training plan for the dog at hand.
